‘Urbanism in an Age of Austerity’ proposal submitted

Following a fourth months productive collaboration among EU and international partners, the ‘Urbanism in an Age of Austerity’ proposal was submitted to the EC on January 31, 2013. (See more at ).

A dedicated SARCHA team worked in difficult weather conditions in Athens, since most of the buildings had no central heating this year due to austerity measures.(see photo).

We expect to hear from the EC at the end of spring; If successful the proposal will run for 42 months (see above time-diagram) and open calls for the involvement of SARCHA associates will be launched accordingly and in due time.

SARCHA’s CCR_Athens Gerani pilot study CCR_Athens_booklet_ EN2012_SARCHA provided the background material for the two months (Jan-Feb 2013) travelling design studio in which 23 architecture students from the University of Western Australia (UWA) worked to address significant issues in the urban organization of Athens. Under the joint direction of UWA’s Associate Professor Nigel Westbrook and the architect Ms Kalliope Kontozoglou, (a SARCHA associate and member of the advisory board ), the students produced imaginative proposals.
